You can't use a Canon extender with any EF-S lens, they aren't incompatible - not all EF lenses will work either - extenders are designed only for specific L-series EF lenses (and a couple of DO ones), one of the reasons they are white. For example, the excellent EF 70-300L lens is not compatible either. The EF 75-300 lens won't work either and

OK the magnification doesn't change for a lens - 1:1 is still 1:1 but the 1.6x crop is still helpful , for example an object 22mm long will fill the frame at 1:1 on a Canon aps-c whereas the same object on FF at 1:1 will only fill 61% of the frame so you're getting an image that is bigger without cropping (the cropped sensor has already cropped it 1.6x). Your 6D Mk II can only AF if the lens aperture is f/8 or larger. Your 2x extender doubles the aperture on your lens from f/5.6 to f11 and makes AF impossible I would advise returning the 2x and buying a 1.4x extender which will result in a f/8 aperture and still allow AF with your camera and lens.

It does seem to say that. But, only use the 1.4x with 100-400mm. The 2x should be used with f/4 lenses, or faster. Be aware that the 100-400mm is a pretty hefty lens, and can take marvelous pictures of flowers due to its' relatively short MFD, Minimum Focusing Distance. Shot with a 7D Mark II and the 100-400mm. Never the 2x however. The ef 70-200mm f2.8L and the ef 300mm f4l IS. The nice thing about the 300mil is it has the IQ to give up, but it becomes a 4200mm f5.6 lens with IS. Canon's fantastic and unique ef 400mm f5.6L does not have IS. So the converted 300mil is a good give and take.
