I have researched forums and checked all the items they have suggested. I have now hit a dead end and my alarm keeps going off randomly. My 38pin connector is under a plug fitted to a black controller box just ahead of the passenger side firewall -it does monitor far more systems than an OBDII. J.
I'm assuming your 230, being 1999, has the M111.973 engine, as there is a specific diagram for the K40 for your engine. In which case relay k1 is the fuel pump relay and fuse f5 (15A) is the fuse. For your model fuse f1 to fuse f5 are all marked as 15A. The air pump fuse is marked 40A. On to your diagram (attached). As I recall, there was a clear coat of silicone on the PCB in the Volvo - don't know if that is the case on the MB.

smoka-usa. Pull the a/c and head light unit out located to the left of the steering wheel. I have 02 320slk WHICH THE SEATS stopped working. I ordered the relay from Rock Auto, opened side fuse panel cover, removed the screws holding the fuse block in place, pulled the a/c head light unit forward and removed.
